Wedding venues in Connacht

Abbeyglen Castle Hotel

A castle hotel above Clifden at the far end of the Sky Road, complete with helipad and resident parrot. Eccentric, warm and about as far west as an Irish wedding gets.

castle

Ashford Castle

The one on every Irish wedding moodboard. An 800-year-old castle on Lough Corrib where the day comes with falconry, boat arrivals and staff who appear before you know you need them. If the budget stretches, nowhere in the west touches it.

hotel · country house

Ballina Manor Hotel

A manor-style hotel in Ballina town that handles both ends of the scale, small family weddings and the full 200-guest day, without making either feel like the wrong size for the room.

castle

Ballynahinch Castle

A castle on 700 acres of Connemara wilderness, with the Twelve Bens behind it and a salmon river below the windows. Weddings here feel like a house party in the best house in the west.

castle

Belleek Castle

A candle-lit castle in woodland outside Ballina, full of dark wood, armour and stories. Smaller and stranger than the big estates, in the best way. Couples who find hotel ballrooms beige book here.

hotel · country house

Breaffy House Resort

A big country house outside Castlebar built for full-scale Irish weddings: proper ballroom, gardens for photos, and enough bedrooms that nobody argues about taxis at 2am.

hotel

Claregalway Hotel

Ten minutes from the city beside Claregalway's friary and castle, a family-run hotel that turns the whole place over to your day. Popular enough locally that the good dates go a year out.

hotel

Galway Bay Hotel

On the promenade in Salthill with the bay filling the ballroom windows. Sunset over Galway Bay during the speeches is the sort of thing guests still mention years later.

hotel · country house

Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate

A five-star estate on Lough Corrib ten minutes from the city, with a private abbey for ceremonies and dinner available in a restored Orient Express carriage. The abbey is the detail that sells it: your own church, on the grounds.

hotel · country house

Ice House Hotel

A converted Victorian ice store on the banks of the Moy, all glass and river views. The most contemporary option in the county, for couples who want their photos to look nothing like their parents' wedding album.

hotel · country house

Knockranny House Hotel

Sits above Westport with Croagh Patrick filling the function room windows. Known locally for the kitchen: if the food matters most on your list, this is the Mayo booking.

country house

Mount Falcon Estate

A hundred acres of woodland on the River Moy with a manor house at the middle of it. Falconry on the lawn, fishing for the early risers, and a calm, green backdrop that photographs beautifully in any weather.

hotel

Salthill Hotel

Seafront and spacious, a short stroll from the city with function rooms looking across the bay to Clare. Handles big numbers without feeling like a conference.

hotel

The Ardilaun Hotel

A country-house hotel inside the city, set in gardens in Taylor's Hill. The quiet, leafy option when you want Galway without the Saturday-night soundtrack.

hotel

The g Hotel & Spa

Galway's designer hotel, all bold colour and mirrored lounges, with milliner Philip Treacy's fingerprints on the interiors. For couples whose wedding style leans fashion editorial rather than country house.

The Hardiman

The grand old railway hotel on Eyre Square, hosting Galway occasions since 1852. High ceilings, chandeliers and the whole city on the doorstep.

castle · country house

The Lodge at Ashford Castle

Ashford's smaller sibling next door, on the same lake with the same views, minus the castle price tag. Suits couples who want the estate without the formality, and the boathouse ceremony room is quietly the best in Mayo.

hotel

The Twelve Hotel

A boutique hotel in Barna village where the city meets Connemara: beach five minutes one way, mountains the other, and a kitchen with a serious local reputation.

hotel

The Wyatt Hotel

Right on the Octagon in the middle of Westport, which means the after-party is the whole town. A warm, unfussy choice for couples who care more about the craic than the chandeliers.

country house

Westport House

A grand old house in parkland on the edge of Westport town, with lawns for the drinks reception and 300 years of history in the background of every photo. Handy for guests too: the town's hotels and pubs are ten minutes away.
