Questions about choosing a date
How do I pick a wedding date in Ireland?
Start with the season and the day of the week you want, then check three things: whether your venue is free, how long the daylight lasts, and that you can give a Registrar the 3 months' legal notice in time. Fridays, Saturdays and the summer months go first.
Which month has the best weather for a wedding in Ireland?
No month is reliably dry. In the thirty-year record used here, the share of dry days barely changes from one month to the next. What does change is warmth and daylight: July and August are the warmest, at about 18°C in the afternoon, and September is close behind. Choose a venue with a good indoor option whatever the month, and check your own date and region above.
How much notice do you need to get married in Ireland?
At least 3 months' notice to a Registrar, given in person by appointment. It applies to civil, religious and secular ceremonies alike.
Is a bank holiday weekend a good time for a wedding?
It gives guests an extra day to travel and recover. The trade-off is that hotels and flights fill sooner, so ask the venue to hold rooms and send your save the dates early.

Where the figures come from
Popularity: Central Statistics Office, table VSA113: Marriages Dates from 2011, the average number of marriages on each of the 366 calendar dates, 2011 to 2024 (CC BY 4.0).
Weather: Open-Meteo historical weather API (ERA5 reanalysis), daily figures for 1991 to 2020 (CC BY 4.0) at Dublin, Cork, Killarney, Galway, Athlone, Letterkenny, Belfast. Each date uses the days within 3 days of it across all thirty years. A dry day is one with less than 1 mm of rain. This is a modelled reconstruction on a grid, not a weather station record, and it counts more wet days than a rain gauge does. It is the past, not a forecast.
Sunrise and sunset: calculated for the town named, to within a couple of minutes, in Irish clock time.
Public holidays: the ten in the Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland has a different list.
Legal notice: Citizens Information: notification requirements for marriage, checked on 12 October 2026. Confirm with your Civil Registration Service before relying on the date.
